Rudi Lickwood has been making UK audiences laugh since 1989, when he started out on the circuit doing an Eddie Murphy impersonation before developing his own distinctive voice as a stand-up. Over more than three decades he has built a reputation as one of the circuit's sharpest one-liner merchants, delivering quick, punchy material with a big, warm stage presence that has kept him in demand at clubs up and down the country. He was one of the first black comedians to appear on BBC's The Stand-Up Show, a marker of how long he has been a fixture of the UK scene.
His television credits include The Real McCoy on BBC Two, Get Me the Producer on Channel 4, Funny Business on BBC Two and Show Me the Funny on ITV, alongside regular slots on Live at the Comedy Store. He won the Jongleurs Award for Best Performer in 2000/2001, has been recognised in the Black 100+ list of greatest Black British achievers, and picked up a BECA award for his outstanding contribution to comedy. His performing life has taken him well beyond UK clubs, from major festival stages at Glastonbury and Reading to shows for the troops with the Combined Services Entertainment in Afghanistan, Bosnia and the Falklands.
That combination of festival-tested material, decades of stagecraft and genuine warmth make Rudi a dependable choice for corporate and club bookings alike. He is used to reading a room quickly and adjusting on the fly, whether that is a rowdy Saturday night crowd or a more reserved corporate audience, and his experience performing for services personnel and international crowds means he rarely puts a foot wrong. A safe pair of hands with plenty of star quality.
