Markus Birdman - stand-up comedian and storyteller

Markus Birdman built his act on an unusual route into comedy, coming up through art school, graffiti art, mural painting and a stint as Glastonbury Festival Poetry Slam Champion before he ever picked up a microphone. That background shows in material that leans on sharp, image-driven storytelling rather than a conventional gag structure, delivered with an edge that has carried him through more than two decades on the circuit since he started out in the late 1990s.

He is a veteran of eleven solo Edinburgh Fringe shows and a headliner at the Comedy Store, Komedia, Hot Water, The Stand and Soho Theatre, and became one of the first British comics to release his own Netflix special, Live in Amsterdam. His circuit has taken in more than thirty countries, from club rooms in the Middle East to festival stages in Australia and New Zealand. In 2023 he reached the Britain's Got Talent semi-final with an unflinching, standing-ovation set about surviving a stroke.

That range, from Fringe storytelling to a Netflix credit to a viral television moment, makes Birdman a strong booking for promoters and festival organisers who want a genuine headline name with real depth behind the punchlines rather than a five-minute circuit set stretched thin.
